WHO says that cellphones disturb student concentration to study?
In a gathering on Thursday sponsored by Globe Telecom and the Riverside College, launched the cellphone technology developed to aid the improvement of quality environment in a college educational institution.
Globe Telecom Segment business Manager Renato Santic and Riverside College Budget Officer Presy Alba jointly explained the benefits derived by students using the Riverside Prepaid Sim.
Santico explained that at the rates of P0.75 per text and P0.10 per second for calls, Riverside Prepaid SIM enables students, administration and faculty members to access customized Riverside information via the MyRiverside Mobile School Assistant.
Santico further explained that through the MyRiverside Mobile School Assistant and pressing cellphone keyboards, students can access school updates, calendar of events, uploaded grades, tuition balances, among others.
"Just like any other technology, Riverside Prepaid SIM can be upgraded to accommodate more complicated needs of the school where student learning can be enhanced," Santico said.
Meanwhile, Riverside Budget Officer Presy Alba stressed that her office is presently developing a plan that will eventually design cellphones to access study materials in statement forms.
"Riverside College is creative enough to 'piggy back' on what young people really like for their cellphones. In partnership with Globe, this can be developed. For now, Riverside as a market for this service is still in its early development stage," Alba said.
Alba also stressed that while this plan may not be an important factor in the achievement of quality education, cellphones can be an alternative learning equipment quite handy enough for learning enhancement.
"We believe that quality education starts with learning enhancements. While the cellphone is the most widely used piece of equipment among the young and can destroy concentration for studying, why not develop something that will influence learning," Alba added.
"At the moment, however, we're just have to start somewhere. Let us see how the market inside Riverside College will react. Then, we will evaluate if we can go the next step and that is to upload study materials," she said.
