Tuesday, August 21, 2007 Court battle over Paglaum Sports Complex saddens Puentevella
BACOLOD Representative Monico Puentevella lamented over what had become of the Paglaum Sports Complex after his office turned it over to the Department of Education.
To facilitate efficiency of management, Puentevella suggested a team management to handle it.
“More than six years ago, I’ve already proposed the idea that Paglaum Sports Complex could have been managed by a team like the Local School Board,” the lawmaker said.
“For a sports complex, however, I suggested that the management team will be composed of the Office of the Governor, Negros Congressional Representatives, the Negros Occidental High School Alumni Association, the Sports Commissioner and the Department of Education (Dep Ed),” Puentevella added.
“Apparently, the province and DepEd chose the most difficult and that is to bring matters to the court of law,” he said, adding, “The province and DepEd are bent to put up a hard stand.”
The battle is only for the rightful steward of the sports complex that had already became one of Bacolod’s historic landmark.
The solon, though, hoped that the court case will be resolved soon and the case will not drag as this will be detrimental to the maintenance of the sports complex.
“As the case drags, who will take care of its upkeep? But since they chose this option, I say good luck to them.” Puentevella lamented.
Puentevella turned over the Paglaum Sports Complex to DepEd last March 12, 2007 and May 25, 2007.
