WESNESCANS Marvin Ting and Eric Abanco cleared their first four matches to take the lead in the Shell National Youth Active Chess 2007-Western Visayas leg (Iloilo City) held at the SM City in Iloilo City over the weekend.
Ting out powered Judiel Cabras, Patrick Corda, Leigh Balboa and Stella Gaudiano while Abanco prevailed in his class over Rio Estorque, Alily Dalipe, Kenneth Castillo and Kevin Castillo to top their games after four rounds of play in the 20 years old and under division.
Meanwhile, seven other players posted four victories to lift the WNC chessers at the top, including Ellan Asuela, Kevin Mirano, Rolly Parondo Jr., Mary Grace Tambasen, Allen Mirano, Marc Gustilo and Karl Badilla.
In the kiddies category, WNC bets also took the early rounds with Paul Aguirre and Jerich Cajeras posting three victories to top the 38-player cast with perfect scores in the 14-and-under division of the fifth leg of the nationwide series sponsored by Pilipinas Shell.
