Thursday, August 23, 2007 Editorial: Separation of powers
THE act of the Social Action Center (SAC) of the Diocese of Bacolod of forming an anti-graft body in the City and in Negros Occidental has a noble intention - that's to probe anyone especially in the government of corruption.
This could be a sort of a revival of then People's Graftwatch led by the late Dr. Patricio Tan. However, the difference is Dr. Tan was a private individual and a medical practitioner who has earned the respect of almost everyone in Bacolod and Negros.
While Reverend Father Anecito "Buenafe", SAC director, is a priest. And if this is so, maybe Buenafe forgot that under the Philippine Law, there's still the so-called separation of powers between the government and the church.
Meaning the church couldn't intervene in the government affairs and vice versa.
But here comes now the new anti-graft body duly formulated in a caucus held at the Bishop's Palace recently.
And the leader responsible for the formation of the group was Fr. Buenafe.
No question on whatever is the motive of Fr. Buenafe. People know that he's really against anyone corrupt. But for what to intervene in the affairs of any public office?
Hope that the motive of whoever is behind the anti-graft body is clean and valid and won't be questioned later of their integrity and credibility.
