Saturday, August 25, 2007 Delilan: Marimar fever By Erwin Ambo Delilan The Buzz
BELIEVE it or not, Marian Rivera, the Marimar of the Philippines, has started to win the hearts of Bacoleños and Negrenses.
Imagine that anywhere I go, almost everyone - barbers, sidewalk vendors, professionals, and even high school students are always in a hurry to go home after 5 p.m. just to catch up for Marimar on GMA-7.
One night, when I was inside a barber shop along Capitol Shopping Center in Bacolod, I was shocked to hear from almost all barbers about GMA’s Marimar.
One barber said, “I need to go home with or without an income so I can catch up for Marimar.”
He added in Hiligaynon, “Grabe gid ya si Marimar. Gwapa-gwapa.”
One of his fellow barbers also said, “Tani ang ABS-CBN mahimo man sang ala Marimar. Galing kay daw wala man sang gwapa sa ABS-CBN.”
Hearing them discussing about the show, I just smiled and exclaimed, “Oh, my God!”
When I went at the Central Market to have a halo-halo break, again, I encountered almost the same scenario. One lady, owner of a meat stall inside the public market, asked her companion to close their shop early so they can watch Marimar.
When I rode a taxi from Pendy’s to Sun.Star-Bacolod Tuesday night, the driver was listening “24 Oras” newscast over the car stereo.
Later, he said he’s going to park early because he also wanted to watch Marimar.
Then, he commented, “Gwapa-gwapa gid ‘ya si Marimar.” To be honest, I just saw Marimar only on billboard and email pictures of GMA-7 sent to me.
But to watch it after it premiered on August 8, I have never done it except for watching a news story about her latest sexy pictorial in one of the men’s magazine in the country.
However, hearing from the words or ordinary people, I can conclude that Marimar is really a click now in Bacolod or I can say that there’s another Marimar fever in the City.
Marimar, a Mexican telenovela starred by Thalia became hit and by-word in the country in 1999.
It was also the time when RPN television became popular promoting two giant television networks - ABS-CBN and GMA-7 to re-format their programming.
Even ABS-CBN’s famous and top-rating TV Patrol suffered a set-back because of Marimar then.
Now, it is almost the same scenario despite the fact that the characters in the telenovela are 100 percent Pinoy actors and actresses.
Hope no one will become “addict” again of Marimar especially with Fulguso, the dog in the teleserye. As to Marian Rivera, I can say that GMA-7 has really
made the right choice.
Marian is beautiful, sexy and very humble. She’s really fitted to be the country’s Marimar.
