2 Negros towns declared under state of calamity

TYPHOON "Goring" forced a total of 7,640 families from 34 barangays in southern Negros to move to evacuation centers.

Two towns in southern Negros- Valladolid and San Enrique were also declared under the state of calamity.

According to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, there are 1,209 families now languishing in different evacuation centers in Valldolid.

Nine barangays in Valladolid were affected.

These include the Barangays Palaka Sur-41, Mabini-30, Ayungon-250, Alijis-170, Doldol-25, Pacol-75, Guintorilan-30, Tabao Proper-113 and Central Tabao-305.

Some of the evacuees are now staying at the local health centers in their barangays. Mayor Rommel Yogore has asked assistance from the province.

In San Enrique, 3,916 families were also affected from 10 barangays that include Barangay Bagunawa-382, Batuan-305, Sibucao-631, Baliwagan-641, Tabao-Rizal-500, Guintorilan-273, Tibsok-170, Nayon-236, Tabao-Baybay-478 and Poblacion-300.

Pulupandan, on the other hand, has 1,950 families from eight barangays were affected.

Among them are Zone 2-200, Zone 3-250, Zone 4-200, Zone 5-250, Zone 6-300, Zone 7-300, Pag-ayun-100 and Canjusa-350.

In Ilog, 533 families were affected coming from six barangays. These are Delicioso-178, Vista Alegre-67, Calubang-183, Andulawan-20, Consuelo-35 and Barangay 1-50.

Bago City, meanwhile, has only Barangay Sampinit with 12 families with 82 people still staying in various evacuation centers.

PSWD has already released relief goods to affected areas consisting of a total of 50 bags of rice, 15 boxes of noodles and 25 boxes of canned sardines distributed equally.

On the other hand, the 11th Lapu-Lapu Batallion headed by Lt. Col. Jess Manangquil, alongside San Enrique Vice Mayor Ma. Victoria delos Santos and Valladolid Mayor Yogore personally supervised the distribution of relief goods in the communities affected by floods.

The 11th IB also provided transportation and personnel to assist the stranded.

The action was taken through the guidance of Commanding General of the 3rd Infantry Division Maj. Gen. Jovinal Narcise and Commanding Officer of 303rd Brigade Col. Honorato delos Reyes.

As to the crop damage, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist has an initial estimate of P10 million as of press time.

Most of the damaged crops were in San Enrique and Valladolid, too and mostlty are rice plantations which were flooded for several days now.
