Friday, September 21, 2007 Badminton skirmishes kick off Sunday By Jerome S. Galunan
ST. ROSE of Lima School battles new comer Don Bosco Technical Institute at 8 a.m. in the elementary boys category in the opening match of the Negros Occidental Private School Sports, Cultural, and Educational Association badminton tournament on Sept. 23 at the Riverside College Gym.
Meanwhile, no.2-ranked Bacolod Tay Tung High School takes on Jack & Jill School-Homesite and St. John Institute clashes with St. Francis of Assisi School in courts 2 and 3, respectively.
The NOPSSCEA badminton tournament will be a team competition consisting of 3 individual matches.
Each team is allowed to have 15 players but will have a maximum of 4 players in each team-tie match.
During the coaches meeting Thursday, there was a suggestion to create a guideline on the selection of the players who will represent NOPSSCEA in the forthcoming Provincial Meet in December.
Several coaches questioned the proper procedure that will be used to determine the representatives for the annual meet that will at the same time protect the coaches from outside pressures usually coming from the player’s parents and the school.
