She was killed outside of a motel in Bacolod sometime in December 2005.
A lot of men were tagged as involved in her death. Among them was Romeo “Kumpol” Kalalang, who could not be found by now.
But last Saturday, one of the suspects, Mark Anthony Enriquez of Bacolod, decided to surrender to authorities.
He went straight to the Police Station 9 and was transferred to Handumanan City Jail for safety reason.
In his revelation, Enriquez disclosed that he was only used by Kalalang. He pointed to Aguadilla’s wife Helen as having ordered de le Peña’s murder.
Helen, in response, said she was unfazed by report that Enriquez once against tagged her as the “masterminded”.
Fernandez is now being aided by his legal counsel, Atty. Vicente Petierre III.
Petierre called Enrique’s revelation as an “extrajudicial confession.”
In a television interview, Fernandez said, “I decided to surrender because I want to live a normal life with my wife and my children.”
But in Monday night’s interview with Helen, she said she’s not disturbed by Fernandez’s surrender.
Helen said that in accordance with the advice of her lawyer, Enriquez’s allegations should be considered “double hearsay” because there was nothing new in his statement in the first place.
“In my possession right now is an affidavit issued by the mother of victim Alicia de la Peña and her husband, Sandy Biaco, admitting that they had pressured Enriquez to confess about the crime.”
Helen challenged police to investigate the case and look for the real culprits.
She said “Kumpol” was in all likelihood the murderer.
