Thursday, September 27, 2007 Dead girl to be cited as ‘heroine’ of Bacolod By Gil Alfredo A. Severino
SHE died a martyr. Christine Amar’s death will not be in vain.
Come October 19, 2007, on the Charter Day Celebration of Bacolod City, Mayor Evelio Leonardia, will give this orphaned martyr her worthy recognition. Christine was only 13 years old.
Christine Amar will be declared a heroine, a life spent for all to emulate.
Christine will be remembered as a young girl who tried to save her friend from drowning in Alijis River, the water of which her grandfather recalled as rushing and deep cause by the nine-day ceaseless rain.
Just as Christine Amar was saving her friend, the current stashed her away.
Nurtured by her grandfather, he said, “Christine was able to bring her friend ashore but my granddaughter met her end. Although there was some time to rush her to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH), but I believe her time is up.”
The honor that the City will give to Christine is richly deserved as neighbors attested to this girl’s gift of charity.
Although she has nothing in life being an orphan, yet Christine has everything.
She had been very helpful in more ways than one. Bacolod salutes to a young life, Christine Amar, whose mind and heart were sacrificed so that others may live.
