PNP: MassKara peaceful, appeals for cooperation
By Gil Alfredo B. Severino

POLICE authorities assured Sunday that the area for the holding of the annual MassKara festival is peaceful however the public is cautioned to be always on alert against criminal elements.

Police Station 1 Chief Noel Mana-ay said 12 more policemen from various police stations in Bacolod will be augmenting their present force to avert any untoward incident during the festivities.

"Soon, two platoons from the Regional Mobile Group will also be deployed. Two teams from the Negros Provincial Police Office and another two teams from the Regional Training Center

So far Mana-ay reported that only one stabbing incident resulting into minor injury, one minor robbery at Manokan Country where a police chase operation occurred and a shoplifting outside the festival area, were reported in their office.

Mana-ay, however, reminded the public not to be over confident, saying, "Somebody must be left in the house when going to the festival area otherwise the house is like being offered to thieves."

"When indulging in a drinking spree, pay your bills. This is the most common cause of brawls in the festival area. Don't bring your problems in the drinking area. Alcohol develop useless argumentation and could end up in violence," Mana-ay stressed.

"Be on your guard and don't drink too much. The surest way to robbery is sleep caused by too much alcohol," Mana-ay added.

Mana-ay also sternly warned the public against 'professional' pickpockets and shoplifters especially those coming from Manila, Panay and Cebu.

"In fact, we have apprehended a shoplifter from Cotabato and identified his networking," Mana-ay said.
