Wednesday, October 31, 2007 Editorial: On alert again
BOTH the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines will impose another alert status all over the country for the All Saints' and All Souls' days celebrations.
This is to see-to-it that like the Monday's barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, the observance of both All Saints' and All Souls' days will also be peaceful.
Of course, the police and the army want to ensure the security of all people including the dead ones both in all public or private cemeteries.
In Bacolod, Col. Ronilo Quebrar, City Police chief, said his men are now ready to secure all private and public cemeteries from any bad element.
This, as Quebrar doesn't want to hear any pity incident that will occur in any cemetery at the height of the Christian celebration in honoring or remembering the departed ones.
In Negros Occidental, Col. Rosendo Franco, Provincial Police director, said all cemeteries in the province will be provided ample police security.
Flow of traffics in all thoroughfares near the cemeteries both in Bacolod and other towns and cities in the province will also be managed efficiently, Quebrar and Franco vowed.
What a nice, nice, move. At least, both Quebrar and Franco know their roles so as much as possible, they want to ensure that no untoward incident that will happen during the days for the dead ones.
Hope the public will cooperate by observing peace while at the height of the celebration.
Hope that people will also follow all the dos and don'ts inside the cemetery as imposed by the authorities.
And among the don'ts inside the cemetery are : liquor, gambling, guns and bladed weapon.
Let's respect the dead so when we reach their world later, we will be respected too by the livings.
