Monday, November 05, 2007 Cop accused of robbery faces dismissal By Erwin Ambo S. Delilan
POLICE Regional Office 6 Director Wilfredo Dulay Sr. vowed Sunday to dismiss policeman Frankie Alojado from service if the latter will be proven guilty of robbing a poor farmer from Cadiz City.
In an interview, Dulay said, "I don't want to tolerate any man in uniform to do any wrongdoing that will put the name and honor of the PNP in vain."
He ordered Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Director Ronilo Quebrar to dig deeper on the issue and put Alojado under investigation.
"I won't hesitate to issue dismissal order against him (Alojado) if he's proven guilty of the robbery charge," Dulay said.
Alojado, currently an element of Police Station 7 in Mansilingan, Bacolod, was accused by Alex Bautista of allegedly robbing him of P65,000 Friday morning after the police officer allegedly pretended as traffic enforcer and flagged him down along Rizal street for driving a single motorcycle with no license plate.
Bautista said the money was intended for the dialysis of his mother-in-law, who is still confined in a hospital in Cadiz City for kidney trouble.
He said their relatives pawned their land in Aklan just to raise the amount.
Bautista can't he was victimized by a policeman.
He said the incident started when Alojado and his two male companions flagged him down along Rizal Street near the San Sebastian Cathedral as early as 6 a.m. Friday.
Alojado allegedly told him that he violated a traffic rule by driving a motorcycle with no license plate.
He then asked P1,000 from Bautista but the latter said he can only afford P500.
Bautista said Alojado agreed but when he saw the bundle of money where Bautista got the P500 bill, the policeman allegedly changed his mind and ordered Bautista to drive his motorcycle.
When they reached the secluded area at the intersection of Gatuslao and Lerio streets, Bautista claimed Alojado and his two male companions hit him at the back.
Then he said the policeman allegedly took his money.
He said he wanted to resist but he was contained by the three suspects who immediately fled after they took his money.
An unidentified woman in the area then helped Bautista go to Bombo Radyo station in Mandalagan.
There, Bautista narrated the incident prompting the Bombo management to commission their police reporters to accompany Bautista to the police headquarters in Taculing to identify the policeman-suspect.
When Inspector Levy Pangue, head of the BCPO-Traffic Management Unit, called up his men and asked them to form in line, none was identified by Bautista.
The victim was also brought to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) headquarters at the TMU Provincial Office, but still failed to see any of the suspects there.
Later, when he went back to BCPO, he immediately identified Alojado as the one who robbed him.
Alojado quickly denied the allegation saying he was in Isabela town when the incident happened.
Bautista, however, said he couldn’t forget Alojado’s face because they negotiated for almost five minutes prior to the robbery.
Meanwhile, Dulay said he will wait for Quebrar's final report this week on the matter.
Quebrar has already tasked Pangue and Police Station 1 chief, Inspector Joresty Coronica, to probe Alojado.
He also ordered to disarm Alojado as soon as possible.
Alojado, on the other hand, said, "I am innocent and I will prove in court that I never did anything wrong."
