Sunday, November 11, 2007 Shooting victim needs help By Gil Alfredo B. Severino
FOR 12 days now, a barangay health worker in Pandanon, Silos, Murcia continue to battle at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Riverside Medical Hospital in Bacolod.
The family of Mrs. Mary Ann Tabujara-Maranon is now in dire need to look for money in order to sustain her medication.
If not, she might die anytime from now.
Mrs. Maranon, along with her husband, Wennie, was riding on a single motorcycle on the night of October 29 when incidentally hit by a stray bullet coming the nearby area where Barangay Captain Leandro de la Torre and tanod Jose Magsico were quarreling.
Mrs. Maranon was rushed to the hospital and remains in an unstable condition until now.
In a press conference held Friday, her husband and son Wyne Mark, and sister-in-law Mely Maranon-Layderos, appealed for help, admitting that their financial resources were already depleted.
On the other hand, Maranon family was also disgusted that both De la Torre and Magsico were reportedly sent out of prison without any concrete action from the Murcia Police Station.
This despite the fact that the Maranon themselves had already filed a formal complaint against de la Torre before the Negros Occidental Provincial Prosecutor's Office.
Maranon stressed, "Aparrently there was no paraffin test, no interrogation and for all we know, de la Torre and Magsico are now scot-free."
"What hurt us most was the inaction of the military detachment unit which stopped us while traveling, conducted thorough search of our bodies and belongings and did nothing when the shooting was very near the unit," the victim's husband said.
"We were unarmed, we were hit, now look at us. A member of our family is pitifully suffering and not even a single centavo was given to us by de la Torre. The middle name of de la Torre, by the way, is Tabujara, my wife's maiden name," Mr. Maranon said.
