Tuesday, November 27, 2007 Six ALA boxers in Dec. 2 'Payback' event By Henry C. Villalva
IT will be a big day for boxers under the ALA stable of Cebu-based Negrense boxing patron and renowned international promoter Antonio Aldeguer when six ALA boys led by Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista battle separate opponents in "Payback...Resbak para sa Kababayan."
The event reels off starting 9 a.m. at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City presented by Third Force Promotions.
Bautista, who lost to Daniel Ponce de Leon during the Philippines versus Mexico World Cup of Boxing held earlier this year at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California, fights WBC Fecom Box Super Bantam Champion Antonio "Barrio" Meza of Mexico in the 12-round main event.
The main supporting bout features the promising AJ "Bazooka" Banal, the WBO Youth Flyweight Champion who will challenge Mexican Super-Flyweight Champion Jovanny "Bambino" Soto from Guasave, Mexico. Milan Melindo, WBO Asia-Pacific Minifly Champion also from the ALA stable, will defend his title against Indonesia challenger Jack Amisa in another scheduled 12-rounder.
The four other ALA boxers fighting in the special attraction are Michael Domingo, RP bantamweight champion, against Anthony Mathias, Tanzanian bantamweight champion from Tanzania, Africa; Rocky Fuentes, Philippine Flyweight Champion, versus Richie Mepranum, the RP Number 2 Junior Flyweight Contender from Maasim, Sarangani Province; Joseph Omanz who fights Albert Cesa of the Omega stable, Cebu City in the 113 pounds division; and Jason Pagara who takes on Anton Olarte also of the Omega Stable in the 131 pounds category.
Bai Elorde, grandson of the late Gabriel "Flash" Elorde, is the only non-ALA boxer in the eight-bout event carrying the colors of the Elorde Stable in Manila. He will meet Marron Sanchez of the Omega Stable in four rounds of the 131 pounds division.
Games and Amusements Board (GAB) commissioner and former Bacolod City councilman Juan Ramon Guanzon Monday told Sun.Star Bacolod that he appreciates the emergence of Third Force Promotions headed by former PBA Commissioner Noli Eala because it will mean that more boxers will benefit from big international promotions.
