What is a lady nurse doing in the Bureau of Fire Protection and a fire marshal at that?
"A lot," said Senior Inspector Pamela Rojane M. Candido.
"Why, it's like nursing and mothering! A nurse and a mother see to it that everything is set, neat, prepared and safe. These are my duties as a fire marshal like any other fireman or firewoman," she explained.
"Isn't it that we have to inspect all residences in our jurisdiction? The inspection should be very thorough otherwise a life could be lost. From wiring to fire extinguishers to the condition of the housing materials to fire protection measures and seeing to it that people are educated to avoid fire," she added.
"This is what mothers and nurses do, right? Like a mother and a nurse at the same time, I feel and get worried over people's lives. I believe this is my strength," she also said.
Indeed, Ma'am Candido is not the "trying hard to be stiff" type but ladylike and motherly.
Her command of English is impressive, Bacolod should be proud of her. May her tribe increase.
