Delilan: Is Mr. Palengke for real?
By Erwin Ambo Delilan
The Buzz

IT CAN'T be denied that Senator Mar Roxas will be one of the formidable presidential candidates in 2010, aside from Senate President Manuel Villar of the Nacionalista Party.

Post your comments here on the Batasan blast

Mar has the "great" men and women in the country behind him plus that he's a person perceived to have a clean image.

Yet, I believe that Mar is just like an ordinary person or an ordinary politician who has also lot of dilemmas to confront at the start of the campaign period in 2010.

One is his being known as "Mr. Palengke" of the country.

Mr. Palengke is Mar's title that helped catapulted him to power as No. 1 senator in the 2004 elections.

Mr. Palengke is, of course, an image that Mar projected, setting himself up as "hero" of the markets against price increases of basic commodities like rice, fish, vegetables, eggs, among others.

But after the 2004 elections, where was he?

Did he make any move to deter successive hikes of prices of basic commodities in the markets?

After the elections, Mr. Palengke was nowhere to be found.

To conclude, Mr. Palengke was just a political ad good for political campaign.

But in reality, Mr. Palengke is a no entity in the markets.

So, personally, I am afraid that when he runs for president in 2010, his propagandists will come up with another political ad to boost his image.

Budget wise, the packaging will definitely cost hundred of millions of pesos.
The question is: is he for real?

I think people should start weighing things right now. Is Mar fit to be president?

Well, at least, it's good that he has declared his bid for the presidency this early so the public will have time to examine him, his actions, his performances, and his promises.

If the public believes he's not fulfilling his promises, then why vote him. But if the public is convinced that he did, then so be it.

After all, the public is sure that Mar will be having good contenders and so the upcoming battle for president will definitely be exciting.
