"MY VICTORY as Youth Council Federation President of Bacolod City is of the SK's advantage," Kevin Daniel Ramos, son of councilor Dindo Ramos, said after winning the SK Federation presidency race at the Association of Barangay Captain's hall in San Juan Street, Bacolod City Friday.
The 15-year-old Ramos is a junior student of St. John's Institute.
Ramos won the election after garnering a majority of 34 votes from the 61 SK chairmen by which 18 went to Kaye Marie Yap and 9 for Jayson Olivar.
Ramos said the key to his victory was his closeness to his fellow SK chairmen.
Ramos meantime said as soon as he sits in the council, he would be filing an ordinance to give scholarship grants to his co-SK chairmen.
Olivar after conceding thanked those who believed and helped him on his cause. "I hope he (Ramos) could meet what is expected of him by the SK," Olivar added.
"Let's give him a chance to prove his worth," Olivar disclosed.
"I will support him if it's for the youth, however if it's not, then I will stand with my principle," Olivar stressed.
Yap, on the other hand, said the election was manipulated.
"I would like to cry but I will do it later. My SK colleagues should have voted wisely," Yap said.
Yap further said she would speak in public at the right time.
Douglas Moscoso, the National Youth Commission representative in Bacolod, disclosed that the election was initiated like a school-based activity.
"Since they are young, they did not took the election professionally but it is accepted because of their ages. But hopefully, they will be focused on the issues and pending ordinances for the youth," Moscoso explained.
Department of Education-Division of Bacolod City Superintendent Milagros Gonzales appealed to the SK officials not to disregard their studies.
Other elected SK Fedration officials were Vice President Monica Amor Barredo (Tangub), Secretary-Joyce Ann Tolentino (Punta Taytay), Treasurer-Joanna Mae Makilan (Villamonte), Auditor-Ann Gayle Lamprea (Barangay 2), PIO- Joy Rachel Salanga (Barangay 4) and Nico Alipato of Barangay 33 as Sergeant at Arms.
