Monday, March 31, 2008 BIR's rollout of computerized systems reaches Negros
THE Bureau of Internal Revenue's nationwide rollout of computerized systems (NRCS) reached the revenue district offices in Negros Occidental - RDO 76 (Victorias City), RDO 77 (Bacolod City) and RDO 78 (Binalbagan).
NRCS aims to build a comprehensive database necessary to support the Bureau's collection and enforcement efforts.
The technical assistance project of 119 revenue district offices all over the country is funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation, administered through the United States Agency for International Development and being run by private company Management Systems International (MSI).
Deputy Chief of Party of the Millennium Challenge Corporation-PTP-Technical Assistance Project James King said the over-all project cost is $20 million with the Philippine government counterpart of P1 billion.
The NRCS is designed to maximize the bureau's operations with minimum manual intervention.
The computerization of the revenue district offices will reduce transaction processing time, encourage voluntary tax compliance by broadening the tax base, and modernize the work environment of the bureau's personnel.
"It is important that everyone pays fair share of taxes. Taxes are what keep the country running forward. Without a sound tax base and without taxpayers, no country can afford to survive," King said as he addressed the crowd of invited taxpayers during the NRCS demonstration at RDO 77 in Bacolod City.
With the implementation of the NCRS, the Philippine government has demonstrated its goal of decreasing corruption and improving revenue demonstration, King added.
Deputy Commissioner for Internal Revenue Lilia Guillermo said project is the backbone of the bureau's integrated tax systems and the pillar of the "run after tax evaders" program of the BIR.
"With the support of the MCC and the USAid, the government continues to explore avenues to address the issue on tax evasion and improve its tax base," Guillermo added.
