Monday, March 31, 2008 Bacolod is national Peso finalist
THE Bacolod City Public Employment and Services Office (Peso) has been nominated as one of the national finalists for best Peso in the country.
Prior to this, Bacolod won the best regional Peso competition in the highly urbanized regional category during the 7th national Peso congress last November in Iloilo City.
Executive Assistant Moises dela Cruz said the city has sent 1,771 workers abroad, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong.
"For January to February 2008, the city also deployed some 1,016 overseas Filipino workers, and we expect to triple the record in the next quarters," Dela Cruz said.
Dela Cruz also said that his office had facilitated the local employment of more than 7,000 in 2007.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia was elated by the Peso's performance, saying "it is a big help to our people especially the young graduates and professionals who need jobs."
Leonardia also said that this report is in time for the ongoing evaluation by the National Peace and Order Council of the city's performance in terms of peace and order, as he expressed confidence that the city will remain in the top five of most peaceful cities in the country.
To further improve Peso's performance, the mayor committed to increase its fund allocation and urged it to give more focus on skills trainings. (Karl G. Ombion)
