Panaad sa Negros '08 activities set

IT'S all systems go for this year's Panaad sa Negros festival as more activities are lined up for the celebration from April 26 to May 3 to showcase Negrense arts and culture as well as their talents and skills.

With the theme "Pasidungog", the weeklong festivities would kick off with a motorcade from the Provincial Capitol to the Panaad Park at 3 p.m., to be followed by the opening ceremony at the Panaad stadium.

The festival dance competition would be held after the opening ceremony and would be participated in by groups representing the different local government units of the province.

The opening day of Panaad would be capped by a fireworks display, the "Little Lin-ay sang Negros" pageant and a band concert sponsored by Convergy's. There will also be a three-day mobile passport services at Panaad that will start on April 25.

On April 27, the annual Panaad national dog agility competition would be held at the Panaad stadium at 3 p.m. The 3rd Negros Island organic farming festival, hosted by the province, will also open on the same day at 4 p.m.

The Negrense/Ilonggo folk dance competition will be held at the Panaad stadium at 7 p.m. and the Lin-ay sang Negros festival costume parade and talent night would be held simultaneously at Robinson's Place Bacolod.

The four-day sports competitions will start on the 3rd day of Panaad, April 28, at 8 a.m. while the drum and bugle competition (secondary level) would open at the Panaad football field.

The RMN hip hop challenge would also be conducted at the Park stage at 6 p.m. followed by the pop dance showdown, 8 p.m., at the stadium, while the ABS-CBN Campus Heartthrobs 2K8 dance show would be held simultaneously at the Panaad Park stage.

For exhibit goers, Panaad is also a perfect venue as there will be a display of Negrense products, costumes, and delicacies during the duration of the festival.

There will be also be a Panaad exhibit starting April 25, 4 p.m., at SM City Bacolod while the 'Traje sang Lin-ay' display will open at the Negros Museum on April 28, 5 p.m.

Day 4 consists of the drum and bugle competition (elementary level) at the football field at 1PM, Capitol employees' day at the Panaad poolside at 2 p.m., NCCA international dance presentation at the Stadium, 8 p.m., to be followed by 'banda katunog' with ABS-CBN M.O.R. at the Park stage.

Day 5 includes the UPLBAA seminar at the 2nd level of the stadium at 8 a.m., Panaad breakdance 'BBOY' fest at the Park stage, 4 p.m., Latin dance competition at the Negros Occidental multipurpose activity center at 5 p.m., and the Negros pop idol iinging contest at the stadium, 8 p.m.

May 1, which is day 6, would be a day of songs since the pop song writing competition would be held at the Park stage, 5 p.m., and a Unilever pop fiesta, featuring Spongecola and Southwing bands with singers Nikki Gil, Yeng Constantino and Chad Peralta, will perform at the stadium at 7 p.m.

There will also be livelihood skills Olympics spearheaded by Tesda at the covered court that will start at 7 .m. on May 2. The Provincial Government Employees' chorale concert of Hiligaynon songs will be heard at the Park stage and the much-awaited "Lin-ay sang Negros" pageant, to be hosted by Paolo Bediones, will be done at 8 p.m. at the stadium.

Day 8 of the festival is the closing ceremony and awarding of winners at 3 p.m. to be followed by the GMA Network-sponsored concert at the stadium at 6 p.m.

There will also be a fireworks display followed by another band concert sponsored by Globe Telecom. (Capitol news)
