Thursday, April 17, 2008 Banzuela unhappy over Western Visayas output in Prisaa By Jerome S. Galunan Jr.
WESTERN Visayas executive director and Western Visayas lady spikers' mentor Roger Banzuela is saddened by the recent outcome of the just-concluded national Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) meet in Zamboanga City.
National Capital Region hauled the over-all championship crown with 164 gold, 42 silver, and 37 bronze medals while Region 6 posted 54 gold, 76 silver, and 48 bronze medals.
Banzuela said several reasons that hurt the WV contingent's bid to retain the overall title was the presence of the WV athletes in NCR's rosters, particularly in the athletics and swimming events.
He added the NCR became a powerhouse team because of the combination of the best talents from UAAP, NCAA, and some other top school-based sports association in the country.
Banzuela stressed "that as long as we could not provide similar benefits to our local athletes, NCR will continue to scout and pirate our talents."
Region 11, on the other hand, settled for third with 22 gold, 62 silver, and 43 bronze medals followed by Region 7 with 20 gold, 39 silver, 48 bronze haul and Region 9 with 11 gold, 3 silver, 24 bronze medals.
Banzuela stressed they will assess the Prisaa outcome and make necessary improvements.
