Wednesday, April 30, 2008 UPV calls Bacoleños for July centennial homecoming By Gil Alfredo B. Severino
IN THE observance of the centennial celebration of the entire University of the Philippines (UP) system, UP Visayas director of alumni relations Professor Amy Daquilanea-Tanoy is inviting all UP alumni of Negros Occidental to attend its foundation day from July 22 to 26.
Middle of last year, during the official visit of UP President Emerlinda Roman, some 45 UP alumni coming from the different campuses but all residing in Bacolod City tendered a dinner where she presented the core projects formulated to celebrate the university's centennial year which is 2008.
"Riding on this centennial celebration is UPV's version of holding a grand reunion this coming July," Tanoy said in a phone interview.
She hopes to reach areas outside Bacolod City proper as there could be more UP graduates other than those who attended last year's dinner with the UP president.
Highlights of the activities for the July centennial Foundation Day celebration are photo exhibits of UP's past at the Interactive Museum of Western Visayas Traditional Arts and Crafts and Student Activity of food sale (until July 26); "Larong Pinoy" (until July 26), which encourages alumni participation; "Pasundayag," which is a stage presentation featuring the UPV faculty REPS and staff; centennial tree planting; and Hinugyaw fashion show, which is a student-organized activity.
The celebration will culminate with the UP alumni and faculty centennial (1908-2008) homecoming at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
Homecoming ticket is sold at P400 each. For those interested, contact (033) 336-8837 or (033) 509-0596 or visit the office at the 2/F Alumni Bldg., CM Annex, Infante Street, in Iloilo City.
