RP XI final cut named next week

THE final composition of the national men's football squad that will represent the country in the forthcoming Asian Challenge Cup Group 2 Qualifiers will be known early next month.

The Asian Challenge Cup is set on May 11-20 in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo and at the Iloilo sports complex pitch in La Paz.

Negrense RP team head coach and former national team mainstay Norman Fegidero Jr. said, "We are still awaiting the arrival of the other Fil-foreign players who are supposed to join the training camp."

Right now, the Fil-foreign booters who are already with the ongoing training camp at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) National Training Center in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, are brothers James and Phil Younghusband, Chad Gould as well as Armand and Anton del Rosario.

Fegidero did not specify who are the others still expected to arrive for training camp.

The other players who were members of the last RP team to compete in an international tournament, who are also with the training camp now, are Aly Borromeo, Ian Araneta, Chippy Caligdong and Negrenses Arnie Pasinabo and Edward Sacapaño.

When asked on problems besetting the team, Fegidero was quick to point out that they no longer have problems with their salaries and allowances contrary to earlier reports which said the team had been experiencing unnecessary delays in their allowances and that this has somehow affected the training.

"We've been getting our allowances on time now and we hope our training requirements will be adequately provided from now on," the West Negros University coach said.

The other Negrenses who are still with the training camp are University of St. La Salle striker Floriano Pacilan Jr., former UNO-R varsitarian Edmundo Mercado Jr., as well as Joel Ballo-allo, Robert Cañedo, Lemuel Unabia and Joven Bedic of West Negros University. (Henry C. Villalva)
