Last Tuesday St. La Salle posted an 86-80 victory over the Province of Negros Occidental.

The Troy Sarabia-mentored Stingers got 21 points from Elven Diaz while volleyball varsity standout Mark Sabusap and Kirby Sellado chipped in with 11 apiece for the win. Marloni Gonzales and Roselo Miraflores each had nine points to put USLS into the win column in this eight-team tournament, considered as NBA's centerpiece event in its annual calendar of competitions.

"We're very glad to see that all the teams are well-matched and the competition is going well," said NBA president Oscar 'Dodong' Bascon.

Former Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod varsity ace Rex Bayer led the Province of Negros Occidental with 15 points while ex-UNO-R Ram Joemarie Bayhon and Joseph Arenas chipped in with 10 each while Jessimar Gabihan, Frederick Premaylon and ex-San Agustin Red Eagle Mark Ramos combined for another 19 points in their losing effort.

In the other game, Marwin Pawnshop continued with its winning ways by posting a 90-89 escape win at the expense of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos/CEGASCO Rams, once again from the scoring duo of Tommy Andren and Sammy Dave Belangel, who finished with 20 and 15 points, respectively.

M. Deles and A. Deles also chipped in 17 apiece for the win.

UNO-R-CEGASCO got its points from Alvarez, 28; Gomez, 19; Gono, 13; and Aledron, 11. (Henry C. Villalva)
