PNP: No high profile crimes in Bacolod

THERE are "no incidence of high-profile crimes such as bank robbery, kidnapping and other terrorist-initiated atrocities" recorded in the city for the first quarter of this year, Bacolod City Police Office declared.

In a statement emailed to Sun.Star, Inspector Ramon Villanueva of the BCPO said that from January to March 2008, "Bacolod experienced a relatively peaceful environment."

He presented the police's accomplishment during the recently held regular peace and order meeting at Sugarland Hotel.

Meanwhile, BCPO has also adopted various programs in line with the directives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) national headquarters.

In "Ang mamang/aleng pulis ay maaasahan" program, BCPO has conducted 13 operations in line with the illegal drugs law.

The operations resulted to the arrest of 18 persons, filing of 13 cases and seizure of various types of prohibited drugs.

They have also arrested 49 persons who violated the Illegal Gambling Act. From these operations, 12 cases were filed. They have also recovered P1,103.50.

13 persons slammed with illegal possession of firearms were also arrested. Recovered were 14 loose firearms.

In the campaign against thieveries and robbery, BCPO said 33 operations were conducted 37 arrest, filing of 33 cases and the recovery of 11 cell phones, three DVD/VCD players, four computers, assorted jewelry, and P20,554 in cash.

In the campaign against wanted persons, 35 persons with warrants of arrest have been apprehended.

Police also collared 16 persons for driving without licensed plates, 26 persons for possession of expired stickers and 35 for driving without license while 30 vehicles were impounded for the same period.

From February to March this year, 31 persons were arrested for violation of the city ordinance against vagrancy, 23 for illegal vending and 40 for anti-mendicancy.

In "Ang mamang/aleng pulis ay malalapitan (approachable)," Villanueva said BCPO has installed a new "pulis" signage in all police stations.

Villanueva added they have also repainted the BCPO headquarters and police stations.

They also conducted cleaning-up program, community service at the Gawad Kalinga Village, Purok Riverside, Barangay Banago and pro-active community involvement in coordination with barangay officials to promote plans and programs of the PNP.

Right now, Villanueva said the BCPO force is implementing the 'Oplan Panaad Festival' in coordination with the Negros Occidental Police Office to secure the crowd during the series of activities.

They will also deploy uniformed personnel for police visibility patrols within the premises of the Pana-ad, intensify police operations against criminal elements and enhance intelligence coverage on target groups that would disrupt or sabotage the Panaad celebration. (PIO)
