Monico Cup quarterfinals reel off Tuesday at WNU Gym

ALL roads lead to the West Negros University Gym starting Tuesday when the quarterfinal stage of the 2008 Monico Cup Inter-Barangay summer basketball tournament kicks off with the top two squads in the four brackets jockeying for semi-final berths in this grassroots sports outreach project of Bacolod Representative Monico O. Puentevella's congressional district office.

At 1 p.m. Tuesday, Barangay 19, the number 1 team in Bracket A at the end of elimination round, battles Barangay Taculing followed by the match-up featuring reigning Under-19 titlist Barangay Bata against Barangay Cabug at 2:30 p.m.

On May 29, Thursday, Barangay Villamonte takes on Barangay Singcang-Airport at 1 p.m. while Barangay 35 tangles against Barangay Pahanocoy at 2:30 p.m.

The semi-finals is scheduled on Saturday, May 31, while the championship and awarding ceremonies will be on Sunday, June 1st, said tournament committee chairman Monico "Nicky" Puentevella Jr.

The top two squads in each bracket at the end of eliminations are: (Bracket A) Barangay 19 and Barangay Bata; (Bracket B) Barangay Singcang-Airport and Barangay 35; (Bracket C) Barangay Pahanocoy and Barangay Villamonte; and, (Bracket D) Barangay Cabug and Barangay Taculing. (Henry C. Villalva)
