WNU, Bacolod United top Uriarte bootfest

REIGNING Nopsscea collegiate titlist West Negros University once again asserted its supremacy in the open category competition of the 4th Gus Uriarte Memorial Football Festival last Sunday at the University of St. La Salle field.

West Negros topped the division in the all-WNU finals where WNU Team A prevailed, 1-0, over their Team C counterparts, with RP Team skipper Emelio "Chieffy" Caligdong taking the Most Valuable Player award.

The champion team is composed of Caligdong, Joel Ballo-allo, Robert Ca¤edo, Joeven Bedic, Rhante Bayquin, Lemuel Unabia, Joshua Fegidero, Erl Tomodos, Carlo Tacusalme, Jaylor Soriano, Ryan Lerio, and Ruffy Llorente.

The 35-above division also turned out to be an all Bacolod United Football Club tussle as Bacolod United Team A beat their Team B counterparts for the title.

Other results in the seven-a-side competition organized by the USLS Varsity and Alumni Football Team, in cooperation with Larry Litonjua, Rani Teresa Alisan, Daisy Jane Dayon and the Uriarte family, PAGCOR, TAO Commodities and Bacolod United FC, showed San Carlos City Football Club posting a 1-0 win over the La Salle Alumni side to take the women's open crown with Misty Marce being named the MVP.

Don Bosco Technical Institute of Victorias City took the 17-Under boys' title after defeating La Carlota City while visiting San Roque FC of Cebu went home with the girls 17-Under trophy with Monica Trebol taking the MVP plum.

WNU is mentored by RP Team coach and former national team mainstay Norman Fegidero Jr., who is back at the WNU campus after mentoring the nationals in the recent Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup Group 2 Qualifiers in Iloilo.
