Police Chief Inspector Arnel Arpon, city's police chief, identified the fatality as Mateo dela Cruz, of legal age, and a resident of sitio Pana-on, Barangay IV.
Injured, on the other hand, were Rey Escala and Junnefer Laraga, also of the same sitio, both companions of dela Cruz.
Arpon said the three were on board their fishing banca and were navigating the Sipalay waters when struck by lightning.
He added the three were rescued by their fellow fishermen on board other bancas and were rushed to the Sipalay City Infirmary Hospital.
De la Cruz, however, was declared dead on arrival while Escala, who sustained severe burns in the different parts of his body, was transferred to a hospital in Bacolod.
Laraga, on the other hand, was released from the hospital after an hour of treatment. (Erwin Ambo Delilan)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star Pampanga. (June 16, 2008 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here. |
