Monday, June 16, 2008 Piccio trains for 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics
PALARONG Pambansa secondary boys swimming standout Kiefer Alexander Piccio of Bacolod City may no longer swim for Negros Occidental and Western Visayas in the 2009 Palaro in Dumaguete City as he begins to set his eyes on bigger things.
The fourteen-year old Piccio, who was named the most bemedalled male swimmer during the last Palarong Pangrehiyon in San Jose, Antique where he pocketed five golds and two silvers, will be attending classes at the Trace College in Laguna starting tomorrow after he was named as one of the six promising young swimmers to compose the last batch of trainees who are to undergo training in preparation for the 2010 Youth Olympiad in Singapore.
A mainstay of the Panaad Swim Club here in Bacolod City, Piccio, who used to study at Bacolod Christian Center School, will be enjoying a full scholarship grant while at Trace College, with free board and lodging and an allowance from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) which will cover all his travel expenses during competitions where he will represent the country.
Together with BCC teammate Karlo Del Carmen, Piccio bannered the Western Visayas secondary boys' team during the last Palarong Pambansa competitions in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
"I wish to thank the Panaad Swim Team, especially the coaching staff, for helping my son improve his performance in his events," Keifer's father Jake earlier told Sun.Star Bacolod in an interview. (Henry C. Villalva)
