Friday, June 20, 2008 E.B. Magalona cops get new firearms
THE anti-terrorism campaign and emergency response operation of the E.B. Magalona Police Office got a boost after the local government, headed by Mayor David Albert Lacson, gave the town's policemen five high-powered firearms and initiated the construction of a response center.
Chief Inspector Samuel Mina Jr., the town's police chief, said Lacson donated to them five units of AK-47 worth P54,000 each, aimed at addressing the current problem of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on firearms shortage. "This is also in preparation for enhancing our anti-terrorism campaign here in E.B. Magalona," he said.
According to him, the emergency response center (ERC) was also built in front of the E.B. Magalona National High School (EBMNHS) along the national highway, which will have a tri-boundary coverage that will include barangays II, III and Tabigue.
Mina said traffic policemen who are ready to respond to any road incidents would man the ERC. "This is also another way of bringing our policemen nearer to the community."
Lacson, meanwhile, said that one of his priorities is the promotion of peace and order in the town, thus he wants to upgrade police's capability to become more responsive to whatever circumstance that may arise anytime or anywhere in E.B. Magalona.
