Leonardia hit for flying to US amid floodings in City
BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia was lambasted for pushing through with his trip to Las Vegas in the US over the weekend amid floodings in the 29 barangays of the City.
In a text message circulated in Bacolod Sunday, it said, " Typhoon hits Bacolod, destroys homes, floods city, shuts down power lines, forces families to evacuate to higher ground as rooftops fly off houses. Our City Mayor had sworn to serve our city yet he flies out despite our state of calamity just to hold a boxer's belt of Manny Pacquiao in America."

Meanwhile, Aaron Bais, acting section head of the City's Public Safety, told Sun.Star Bacolod last night that of the 29 flooded barangays in Bacolod, most affected include barangays 12, 39, 40, 30, 1, 27, Tangub, Banago, 31, 17, Sum-ag and 21.
Also severely hit were barangays 35, 3 and Mansilingan, Bais said.
He said the City's Social Welfare and Development already distributed relief goods to affected barangays and individuals who flocked the various evacuation centers. (Erwin Ambo Delilan)For more Philippine news, visit Sun.Star Manila. (June 23, 2008 issue) Write letter to the editor. Click here. |
