'Frank' affects livestock; damage pegged at P8.9-M
TYPHOON 'Frank' did not only caused human fatalities but damaged to about 473 hectares of riceland, vegetables, corns and banana plantations as well as fish farms worth P7.9 million.
It also damaged about P941,000 worth of livestock, a report from the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) said.

In a consolidated report submitted to the Office of the Governor Monday, Provincial Agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan said due to continuous heavy rains over the weekend, eight localities in the province - Hinigaran, Valladolid, Bago City, Pulupandan and Pontevedra in the south and Cadiz, Sagay and Escalante cities in the north-- sustained big agricultural losses.
Fourteen localities, also including Bago City, Sagay City, Pontevedra, Bago City and Pulupandan, already reported their respective livestock losses to the PVO.
This as a crocodile was also spotted ashore along Bato river in Sagay City, said Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena.
Tabianan said of the eight localities that reported agricultural damages, Valladolid town posted the biggest loss in palay and vegetable plantations with almost 170 hectares, totaling to P2,337,904.90 (P1,637,904.90 for palay and P700,000 for vegetable.)
Cadiz City came next with 25 hectares of palay plantations affecting P269,925 plus purse seine of about P2 million.
Bago City also incurred about P1,315,350 loss of palay plantations from 90 hectares and another P50,000 worth of banana crops from a 25-hectare plantation.
Pontevedra also posted P971,730 worth of palay damage covering 50 hectares.
Hinigaran has P628,222 losses in palay too while Pulupandan has about P274,000 both in palay and vegetable plantations.
Sagay City, on the other hand, registered P48,908 damage in its four-hectare corn plantation.
Escalante City posted P100,000 losses in their fishery farms. Tabianan said a total of 443 farmers were affected - 71 in Hinigaran, 327 in Pulupandan, and 45 in Bago City.
In Sagay City, Decena said, 14 fighting cocks worth P15,000 drowned while five pigs and two goats, all worth P24,900, were also washed away by flood waters in Victorias City. In Murcia, 15 goats and five pigs worth P38,100 were also among the animal casualties of 'Frank.'
La Carlota City has the most number of fighting cock mortalities with 80 heads plus 12 poultry animals, two pigs and four goats, all worth P136,200; San Enrique has 10 goats, three pigs, and 20 fighting cocks, all worth P55,500; Pulupandan - two carabaos, two cattles, 10 goats, 20 pigs, 80 poultry animals and 10 fighting cocks, all worth P280,000; Bago City - P62,100 animal damage for the eight goats, five pigs and 20 fighting cocks; Kabankalan City - 45 heads of fighting cocks and one goat, all amounting to P68,700; one carabao worth P21,000 was also killed in Isabela while in Cauayan town, damage included one cow, three goats, four pigs, 40 poultry animals and 10 fighting cocks, all worth P62,600.
In Ilog, a total of P45,600 worth of three goats, six pigs and 10 fighting cocks were also reportedly drowned by flood waters; in Sipalay City, 50 fighting cocks and eight goats, all worth P84,600; and in Hinoba-an, P47,000 worth of 30 fighting cocks plus two goats were also carried away by floods.
