PSC uncovers BaNeg softball 'junket'

PHILIPPINE Sports commissioner (PSC) Eric Loretizo on Wednesday backed up his earlier claim that at least 15 persons were inserted as "junkets" in the three Bacolod softball teams competing in the Asia Pacific Girls Softball Championships in Guangzhou, China.

Loretizo told Manila-based mediamen that one Esteban Albacea, apparently the school principal of the Domingo Lacson National High School who was earlier announced as head of the BaNeg delegation, "led the 15-man junket along with his wife Doly and sister Ana Rose, whom they claim is an assistant coach of the senior league squad" from DLNHS.

The PSC official likewise named a certain Mario Estrella Jr. and Adrian Jutic, who were labeled as coaches, "but a PSC insider allegedly revealed that delegation senior coach Teresita Himpolaran claimed they are not part of the official delegation."

"Ma. Elena Dumancas and Nelly Canilao, both school principals of Education and Training Center School (ETCS), were also part of the junket while Damaso Sancon and Haydee Bongcas were registered as 'umpires'," the PSC official's revelation further said.

Jonathan Despi, who in press releases issued prior to the trip was identified as coach of one of the two DLNHS teams, was later labeled as "team manager" and was reportedly forced to stay behind after the PSC uncovered the so-called "junket." (HCV)
