Friday, July 18, 2008 1st Metro Bacolod Open 1-on-1 caging kicks off Saturday
DESPITE some minor snags in the booking of the original playing venue, the staging of the 1st Metro Bacolod Open 1-on-1 basketball tournament will definitely push through starting Saturday, July 19, at 1 p.m. at the Bata National High School Activity Center in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.
The six-round novelty event scheduled to run from July 19, 20, 26, 27, August 2 and 3, every 1 to 6 p.m. is a project organized by the Game Royale Aficionados of Negros Inc. in cooperation with the Bata National High School administration and the Barangay Bata Council and Sanguniang Kabataan (SK).
The tournament is open to all bonafide residents of Metro Bacolod (Bago City, Murcia, Bacolod City, Talisay City and Silay City) with no age or height limit.
Cagers officially enrolled for the current school year in any school located in the Metro Bacolod area are eligible to join regardless of years of residency.
Out-of-school participants are required to present a certification from their barangay captain as proof of residency.
Each round will be played for five minutes on a half court with the player losing the round in case he commits three fouls.
Players must compete in complete and proper basketball uniform (shirt or singlet, shorts, socks and basketball shoes). Tournament rules will be discussed in detail right after Saturday's brief opening ceremonies.
Winners in the competition will be awarded prizes including a P5,000 gift certificate plus trophy courtesy of Globe Telecom through area sales manager Jose Villagracia Jr. for the 'King'; a P2,500 gift certificate from Sungem Pharma and trophy courtesy of former Bacolod Councilor Lyndon Caña for the 'Prince'; a P1,000 gift certificate from the Negros Occidental Teacher's Federation (NOTF) courtesy of general manager Ruben Camarista plus trophy courtesy of Negros Occidental Register of Deeds lawyer Romulo Gonzaga for the 'Duke'; and for the 'Hot Shooter' (highest scorer in one game), a P1,000 gift certificate from Mr. & Mrs. Felipe and Vicky Hermosura plus trophy courtesy of USLS professorial staff Engineer Joselito Lumanang.
The 4th to 15th placers will receive Globe SIM Cards with P100 worth load courtesy of Globe Telecom through Ma. Sharon Villar Ciocon, center head, SM.
