By Henry C. Villalva

IT WILL be the Maranatha Christian Academy against Living Heritage Christian Academy in the first game on Saturday to kick off the LNA 7 Sports Foundation Inc. 17-Under basketball tournament at the West Negros University Gym.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

The opening game immediately follows brief opening ceremonies where LNA 7 Sports Foundation Inc. chairman Anthony Carlo Agustin is scheduled to deliver the opening remarks with tournament commissioner Jake Azucena, declaring the tournament open.

Seeing action in this pre-Nopsscea season series are University of St. La Salle, St. John's Institute, Living Heritage Christian Academy, Maranatha Christian Academy, St. Benilde Integrated School, St. Joseph's School-La Salle, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (Bacolod), La Consolacion College-Main, West Negros University and wild card entry Stallions basketball team of Eroreco.

Other opening day match-ups are between St. Joseph's School-La Salle and St. Benilde Integrated School, and USLS versus UNO-R.

The league envisions to "provide and set up a synchronized basketball tournament schedule with Nopsscea and to pursue a sustainable program without conflict; to provide wholesome recreational basketball activity and pastime while at the same time eliminating unwanted and undesired vices among the youth; and to give impetus to every school basketball program through competitive and sustained tournament," a press release said.
