Friday, July 18, 2008 NBA meets Governor's Cup teams anew Tuesday
THE Negros Basketball Association (NBA), headed by Oscar 'Dodong' Bascon, will meet again with representatives of teams that have signified their entry to the Governor Isidro Zayco Invitational Basketball Cup '08 event, which is slated to kick off on August 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
The team representatives are expected to finalize the tournament rules, format of the tournament, as well as details regarding the opening ceremonies, said NBA tournament commissioner Bobby Tee.
Nine teams are seeing action in this series, which is the NBA's contribution to this year's sports development program of the province of Negros Occidental.
Governor Zayco will be the guest of honor and speaker during the August 9 opening ceremonies where the team muses will vie for the title of Miss NBA Governor's Cup and where the team with the best uniform will likewise receive a special prize.
The nine teams that have earlier signified their commitment to join are Silay City, La Carlota City, Hinigaran, Province of Negros Occidental, Cadiz City, Ticel-Iloilo, Toyota-Iloilo, Pamplona Bulls, and reigning Mayor's Cup champion West Negros University Mustangs.
Meanwhile, former pro and ex-Negros Slashers mainstay Leo Bat-og told Sun.Star Bacolod he is definitely seeing action for Ticel in the forthcoming NBA Governor's Cup series contrary to earlier reports that included him in the Pamplona Bulls lineup.
Bat-og represented Ticel during the last NBA meeting with participating teams.
