Saturday, July 26, 2008 Silay pays Ceneco P603T electricity debt
THE City Government of Silay remitted P603,378.01 to the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) representing its April and May 2008 electric bills.
Mayor Jose "Oti" Montelibano also initiated the payment of P105,406.84 last July 21.
This represents the City's first bi-monthly amortization for their outstanding electric bills amounting to P6,797,687.61 incurred before Montelibano's administration.
The arrears cover the period from September 2006 to June 2007.
The agreement between Ceneco and Silay City was forged after a dialogue recently held between Montelibano, power coop officials headed by Roberto Montelibano, Silay district director Roberto Benidicto, general manager Supicio Lagarde and field office manager Lydio Apawan.
The agreement provides that 50 percent of the amount paid by the local government, on top of its current monthly bill payments, will be flowed back to Silay City in the form of rural electrification project to primarily benefit the sitios, puroks and haciendas that remain un-energized due to lack of funds.
This means that the Silay City residents in far-flung areas could expect line extensions in the next few months.
To show its reciprocal gestures, Ceneco will also submit its plan of payment for the unpaid franchise tax deficiencies once it receives the financial assessment from the Silay City Treasurer's Office.
"This is a very encouraging development," said the Ceneco president. "I wish all other local government units would emulate this model so we can all realize the total energization of the remote and forgotten pockets of our franchise area."
