Florita Kho of the Rotary Club of Bacolod took her fellow Rotarians to the mountains of Minoyan, Murcia morning of August 7 to see the plight of children in the countryside.
"Compassion overtook me when I learned that one of my helpers' children could not go to school for lack of decent footwear. I shared the burden with my clubmates and I'm so happy they came with me today," she said.
Also with the Rotarians were the Bantay Bata 163 Negros staff and consultant Bing Ascalon, who oriented the pupils on the rights of children through songs and games.
Principal Luzviminda dela Cruz along with the teachers of F. Barandiaran Elementary School warmly welcomed their visitors and assisted in giving away 450 pairs of slippers to wide-eyed schoolchildren.
They responded by giving bouquets of Murcia's fresh rainforest blooms to their visiting friends.
Rotary Club of Bacolod president Leilani Alba led the “Steps to School” activity with the aim of "making dreams real for children by reducing mortality and providing an environment for a healthy and happy childhood."
