Friday, September 12, 2008 UNO-R places 2nd, 9th in MedTech Board
UNO-R's Czarina Mae D. Gidlayan and Greg Ryan T. Gerongano ranked second and ninth, respectively, in the PRC Medical Technology Board examination last September 6 and 7.
The school also scored a 100 percent passing in the board exam, driving the UNO-Rians attending the concelebrated mass on the Feast Day of San. Nicolas de Tolentino to a roar of applause as the achievement was announced by University president Rev. Fr. Sixto Bitangjol, OAR.
Those who also made it to the Board were Sweet Mary Anne M. Abriola, Lorieza E. Caraig, Krisjenn B. Dioneza, Ronoel Gene S. Flora, Jackie Lou F. Ong, Jethro I. Pagunsan, Ria Sophia B. Perales, Ma. Fe M. Tumbali and Ramon Rydum T. Viva Jr.
The good news was disclosed by College of Arts and Sciences dean Rev. Fr. Joel Alve, OAR, to Fr. Bitangjol, who was surprised to get an early morning knock at his door.
Gidlayan and Gerongano had been high school valedictorians of UNO-R High School and Hinigaran National High School, respectively.
Meanwhile, Gerongano was a 'Handog ng Safeguard sa Medical Technologists ng Kinabukasan' scholar of the Proctor and Gamble-Philippines and the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (Pamet).
Gidlayan was also a Ms. Freshmen and Ms. UNO-R in 2004.
Assistant dean Marian Eusoya heads the Department of Medical Technology of the CAS.
Meanwhile, two freshmen students from the College of Arts and Sciences won in the recent 'Mind Breakers 4' inter-college quiz bee last September 9 at the main lobby of UNO-R.
This year, Precious Anne Edrajas and Luigi Roquero Caler, both from the College of Arts and Sciences, topped the bee. The College of Engineering and College of Nursing placed second and third, respectively.
Other colleges that participated were the College of Education, College of Information and Technology, College of Criminal Justice Education and College of Business and Accountancy.
The quiz bee is a yearly competition sponsored by the Tau- Omega Mu-FLC to test the academic prowess of the freshmen of the different colleges.
The winners received certificates and cash prizes.
The activity is in line with the ongoing University Week (U-week) celebration of the UNO-R.
The university's College of Nursing, on the other hand, will conduct a seminar for all nursing students with the theme 'Seminar for Disaster Preparedness' on Friday, at 8 a.m, at the Father Cuenca Hall of UNO-R.
The seminar aims to develop and equip all students with knowledge for any disaster management.
Dr. Dave Gamboa, director of emergency department of Riverside Medical Center, will be the resource speaker in the seminar.
