Convergys hails Arroyo for continued BPO support

CONVERGYS Corporation hailed President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Wednesday for her continued support to the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry which has resulted in the continued success of BPO locators in the Philippines.

“We would like to thank the President for making time with us here again in Bacolod. Here is the reason why the Convergys business is very successful in the Philippines -- the support of the Philippine government has been outstanding,” said Convergys Corp. president Andrea Ayers.

Ayers made the statement in her welcome remarks after the President cut the ceremonial ribbon at the main entrance of One San Parq building and unveiled the company marker at its new contact center in Bacolod.

The President officially opened Convergys’ latest facility as part of the national government’s show of support for BPOs, and to further boost the country’s position as the most favored BPO/call center destination in Asia, next only to India.

“There have been indications all along the way that the Philippines is a hugely successful locale for Convergys, and with the nature of our business, we have known through all five years of our existence here that our strength here is a reflection of the very high quality workforce,” Ayers said in a statement.

Arroyo commended Convergys for its continued confidence in the capability of the Philippines to host several investors, particularly those in the BPO industry, despite the recent global crisis.

“May I say that Convergys is one of the reasons why the Philippine economy is successfully weathering the global crisis.”

Similar to other Convergys centers nationwide, Ayers said the Bacolod facility provides Convergys clients with both general support and advanced technical help desk services via traditional voice calling, e-mail, and Web chat, as well as “back office” application and document processing.

“We have an employee base comprised of the best minds and talents, and we have created a competitive advantage by harnessing the individual strengths of peoples and cultures around the world. With our new facility here in Bacolod City, we continue to tap the tremendous pool of people resources available in the Philippines,” Ayers told the President.

Ayers also informed the President that Convergys Bacolod hopes to employ an additional 1,000 employees by year end.

Located at One San Parq, San Antonio Square along Lacson Street, the new contact center of Convergys currently employs 707 local residents.

With this new site, Convergys now has nine of the largest, multi-client, US company-owned contact centers in the Philippines.

The 6,000-square meter Bacolod facility encompasses the contact center, administrative offices, recruitment and training rooms, an advanced language laboratory, a cafeteria, and common areas for employees. The facility is also “outfitted with international standards with ergonomically designed furniture for contact center work, state-of-the-art generators, and specialized lighting,” Convergys said.
