NSO updates list of establishments

THE National Statistics Office (NSO) is currently updating the list of business establishments nationwide.

In Negros Occidental, the provincial NSO personnel are now gathering information from recently or newly-opened commercial establishments all over the province, especially in areas or barangays with growth centers.

Updating of information is also done for those establishments that are pre-determined based on the previous list. Questions ask are about the establishment’s legal organization, total employment, year it started its operation, and economic organization, among others.

The ULE or the updating of list of establishments is a regular activity of the Industry and Trade Statistics Department of the NSO. It in undertaken primarily to provide an updated and reliable registry of establishments that would serve as the sampling frame of censuses and surveys of establishments.

This year’s primary strategy of the ULE is the listing of new establishments and validation of closures to supplement and update the listing of establishments’ database.

NSO personnel are more concentrated in the barangays with growth centers such as the newly-opened or newly-established malls in the Reclamation areas along Gatuslao Street. These new establishments have a significant economic impact in terms of volume of trade employment. This is in line with the NSO’s commitment to provide better statistical products and services through improved survey frame, especially on the small and medium establishments.

Provincial Statistics officer Fred Sollesta is encouraging the owners and managers of the establishments to cooperate with NSO personnel and give the necessary information to the questions since the reliability and credibility of the undertaking is dependent on how the respondents give their responses.

Sollesta assured that all information gathered are considered strictly confidential and cannot be disclosed to anybody or to any entity or likewise be used for taxation, investigation or enforcement purposed as authorized under Commonwealth Act 591 and Executive Order 121.
