CHESS enthusiasts who are professionals (degree holders) now have another opportunity to showcase their chess skills as the registration for the 9th Negrense Professionals (Degree Holders) individual chess tournament is ongoing at the Game Royale Aficionados of Negros Inc. Clubhouse, Top’s Bowling Lanes Lobby, 10th /Hilado Sts., Capitol Shopping Center, Bacolod City.
Entry fee for the tournament is P200 per participant and deadline for registration is on Friday, Nov. 7, 6PM, with no extension, to give tournament officials ample time to complete all tournament paraphernalia.
The seven-round Swiss System (1 hour 20 moves + 1 hour to finish the game) competition is exclusively open to all holders of any four-year baccalaureate degree. Upon registration, first time participants are required to present a Xerox copy of his or her transcript of records, college diploma or PRC license.
Participants must know how to record chess games either in Descriptive/English Notation (P-K4-P-QB4) or Algebraic Notation (e4-c5) and must provide his/her own tournament size chess set during every official playing rounds.
Prizes in store for the winners are: for the champion, a P3,000 gift certificate plus 42-inch, four-legged ‘King’ trophy courtesy of Roy Villa, president Buglas Bio-Fuel Seedbank & Dev’t Corp.; for the first runner-up, a P2,000 gift certificate plus 38-inch, four-legged ‘Queen’ trophy courtesy of Dr. Eleuterio Bernardo, Ph.D, vice-president for research and development, Buglas Bio-fuel Seedbank & Dev’t Corp; for the 2nd runner-up, a P1,500 gift certificate plus 34-inch, four-legged ‘Rook’ trophy courtesy of Mr. James Noel Araneta, vice-president operations, Buglas Bio-Fuel Seedbank & dDev’t Corp; for the 3rd runner-up, a P1,200 gift certificate plus 30-inch, four-legged ‘Bishop’ trophy courtesy of Sungem Pharma; and for the 4th runner-up, a P1,000 gift certificate plus 26-inch, four-legged ‘Knight’ trophy courtesy of Eng. Nathaniel Viaje.
The 6th to 20th place finishers will each get Globe SIM cards with P100 load courtesy of Globe Telecom through Ma. Sharon Villar Ciocon, SM center head.
