NEGRENSE National Master Hamed Nouri bowed to International Master Richard Bitoon in 44 moves of the Sicilian Wednesday as Cebu City edged host Bacolod City, 2.5-1.5.
The battle of early leaders take the solo lead after three rounds of the ongoing National Inter-Cities and Municipalities chess team championship being played at the New Government Center organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by former Rep. Prospero Pichay.
Bitoon teamed up with Jayson Salubre in taking a one point lead over National Inter-Province champion Tagaytay City, Quezon City, Talisay City and Mandaluyong City in the standings.
Salubre outclassed Francis Glen Panes in 38 moves of another Sicilian while teammate Voltaire Sevillano drew with Jose Vito Tapulgo in a marathon 100 moves of a Reti.
Ted Ian Montoyo came out as the solo winner for the host chessers when he humbled Richard Natividad in 31 moves of a Benko Gambit.
The Cebu squad also won their first two assignments, winning over Maritime, 3.5-.5 in the first round and over Muntinlupa City, 3.5-.5 in the second round. (HCV)
