Wednesday, November 12, 2008 Meat inspector in hot water over hot meat By Merlinda A. Pedrosa
BACOLOD City Legal Officer Allan Zamora ordered meat inspector Oscarlitos Limos to explain in 72 hours why he should not be sanctioned for his failure to condemn the hot meat seized in Barangay Bata market last Friday.
Escarlitos, a member of Task Force Botagoy, reportedly failed to recommend for condemnation the "hot meat" the group seized last November 7 in Bata Public Market.
Instead of condemning the seized hot meat, Escarlito allegedly returned it to the owner and allowed the same to be sold to the market.
Noel Nagom of the Nonoy Bellaganti Meatshop reportedly owned the "hot meat," the same person who allegedly lost around 70 kilos of illegally slaughtered meat to the task force during a separate inspection last Saturday.
Animals slaughtered outside the new abattoir in Barangay Handumanan are considered "illegal" and will be seized and condemned as per City Ordinance 459.
Zamora said the function of the task force is to apprehend illegally slaughtered meat and the person who must order the condemnation should be the authorized personnel of the City Veterinary Office.
