Wednesday, November 12, 2008 Danilo Puzon Cup opens Nov. 12
PUEBLO Rosario Athletic Club completes a four-team inter-color tournament when the Basketball Unified Sports Group opens its Danilo Puzon Memorial Cup Wednesday night at the Lopue's South Square Gym in Bacolod City.
The Eroreco-based sports enthusiasts will meet Alvin Auto Parts at 8 p.m. following the 6:30 p.m. clash between Axial Engineering and Bethany Gelle Trucking. A brief opening ceremony and a silent prayer for the late Danilo Puzon precedes the tournament.
Puzon, of Barangay 35, Bacolod City, died middle of this year due to stab wounds. His assailant remains at large.
Tournament format is a double round robin affair, crossover semis and knockout final.
Axial Engineering, led by BUS Group adviser Bing Soyao and Rene Antones, will be bannered by Edgar Espares, Vicente Plagata Jr., Edmundo Lumawag, Jovito Yasay, Romeo Herrera, Mailo Jurisprudencia, Jerome Songalia and Abet Jarder, all members of the BUS Group team competing in the LNA Sports Foundation 40-Up category competition ongoing at the West Negros University Gym.
Bethany Gelle Trucking will rely on former Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod stalwart Bandoy Aliermo, Mel de Dios, Julius Prietos, Eugene Mojeño, Ed Cruz, Raymundo Sapa Jr. and skipper Nene Lapore.
Alvin Auto Parts, captained by Biboy Java, will rely on its big men Henrico Juarez, Armando Soberano, Randy Cawaling, Winnie Antones, Rex Bayer and Reynaldo Valencia.
On November 19, Alvin meets Axial at 6:30 p.m. and Bethany Gelle tries Pueblo Rosario Athletic Club at 8 o'clock. (HGD)
