Thursday, December 04, 2008 NSO conducts literacy, education and mass media survey
THE National Statistics Office (NSO) has conducted a literacy, education and mass media survey, which aim to gather data on basic and functional literacy rates and educational skills qualifications of the population.
The survey was in line with the government's thrust to promote education policies and programs aimed at eradicating illiteracy in the country.
This year's survey was the fourth national survey of this kind being conducted by the NSO. The data that will be gathered from this activity shall provide basis for implementing necessary interventions to eradicate illiteracy, especially in depressed and under-served areas. It is a joint undertaking of the NSO, Department of Education and the Literacy Coordinating Council.
There are approximately 26,000 households identified to be the national sample.
Negros Occidental, on the other hand, has a provincial sample of about 660 households deemed sufficient to provide data at the provincial level. The sample households will be visited and interviewed by NSO personnel until second week of December.
A self-administered questionnaire will be conducted to household members 10-64 years old regardless of educational attainment. The survey seeks to gather information on the demographic characteristics, literacy and education, employment characteristics and household characteristics and amenities.
Confidentiality of the information gathered by the NSO personnel will be kept strictly confidential and will not be divulged to any person or entity. (PIA)
