Friday, December 19, 2008 NOPSSCEA spikers retain HS girls' prov'l meet title
PRE-tournament favorite high school girls volleyball squad of Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) mentored by Marilou Lozada continued its dominance over Area IV posting a 25-18, 25-22, 25-15 victory in a one hour and 10 minutes championship match Thursday to retain its Negros Occidental Palarong Panlalawigan title.
The high school boys' volleyball title is still being contested as of press time.
Meanwhile, Area VIII took the championship in elementary boys' competition and relegated Area VII to second place after winning Thursday, 25-21, 25-21 while the Area III girls' team, represented by Talisay City and mentored by Ma. Corazon Garovillo, forced a playoff game with Area VIII on the strength of a 25-23, 25-21 win Thursday morning.
Area III posted a convincing playoff victory over Area VIII to take home the crown-25-16, 25-17, with Area VII settling for a runner-up spot.
In boys' volleyball, Area III of Ma. Theresa Aboy won over Michael Laroza's Area VIII charges, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 to claim the title, said tournament manager and former Neg. Occ. provincial sports development officer Efren Timtiman. (HCV)
