Wednesday, December 24, 2008 Ilog-Hilabangan watershed reserve mgt accord in Kabankalan
THE signing of the Ilog-Hilabangan Watershed Forest Reserve (IHWFR) amended co-management agreement and election of officers were held at the City Council Session Hall in Kabankalan City last December 16.
Among those present were Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr. of Kabankalan City, Vice Mayor Delia Anacan and Councilor Jeorge Largado, chairman on City Council committee on environment, natural resources and ecology, as well as other city councilors.
Also in attendance were Mayor Carminia Bascon and Vice Mayor Luz Bayot of Himamaylan City and other city officials of both local government units (LGUs).
The general objectives of IHWFR are to rehabilitate, conserve, protect and enforce forestry laws, rules and regulation on watershed and bio-diversity, taking into consideration management zones, ancestral domain, people empowerment and provision of livelihood.
Principal signatories present during the signing were Zayco, Bascon, Felicimo, as well as Montecino, barangay captain of Carol-an; Mary Jane Faduga, barangay captain of Buenavista; Reyneic Alo, executive director of MUAD-Negros; Aquiles Zayco Jr., general manager of Kabankalan City Water District; Benjie Miranda, barangay captain of Tan-awan; Largado; and Engineer Jaime Verano, general manager of the Himamaylan Water District.
Elected chairman and vice chairman of the first IHWFRCMC are Mayor Zayco and Mayor Bascon, respectively.
The signing was facilitated by the City Planning and Development Office headed by Jessie Tanmoya.
