Cops asked to pacify tension between 2 brys By Harley Palangchao
CHIEF Supt. Victor Luga, director of the Cordillera Police Regional Office, on Tuesday convened policemen from Mt. Province and ordered them to act as mediators on behalf of their village mates amid report of a brewing tension between villagers of Tocucan and Belwang.
The reported brewing tension developed after a Baguio City resident, who hailed from Tocucan, was stabbed to death by six persons while he and his son were walking along Tacay Road in Pinsao Proper the night of September 21.
The victim was identified earlier as Christopher Lengwa Dizon, married and a resident of #178 Purok 5 Pinsao Proper.
It was reported that Dizon and his son were on their way when they met the group.
For still undetermined reasons, a heated argument ensued between the victim and the suspects.
Witnesses claimed that one of the men stabbed the older Dizon once on his left chest while another hit him with a hard object on the head.
They immediately fled from the crime scene.
One of the three suspects whom police were able to collar the following day was believed to be from Sadanga.
The three were arrested by personnel of BCPO Station 2 and are now detained at the Baguio City Jail.
Two of the three remaining suspects were reported to have sought refuge somewhere in Abra.
Sources, however, said that some of their village mates are now working for their peaceful surrender.
Meanwhile, police sources revealed similar meetings conducted with their counterparts in Mt. Province and Benguet to avert any spill over of the brewing tension in a bid to protect the lives of innocent civilians.
"During the meeting, the policemen from two villages and neighboring towns promised that they will talk with the concerned parties, including village elders," the source added.
Even Sr. Supt. Villamor Bumanglag, director of the Baguio City Police Office, told reporters that BCPO personnel from the two villages have pledged to help ensure a peaceful way in solving the case.
Another police source, meanwhile, claimed that a villager from Belwang was also killed Monday morning somewhere in Mt. Province.
But he ruled out the possibility that the killing was done out of revenge.
"The killing might be coincidence."
