Contractors urged to help beautify Baguio

MAYOR Bernardo Vergara has approved a City Council resolution urging contractors involved in the construction of public roads here "to plan seedlings whenever there is available space within their project jurisdiction."

Councilor Reinaldo Bautista Jr., the measure's proponent, said that the presence of plants along the roads will not only beautify the city but will also help the local government attain its objective of maintaining Baguio's status as a clean and green hall of famer.

"The cleanliness and beauty of Baguio City should be maintained so that we will be more environmentally friendly and its aesthetic value preserved," he explained.

Bautista added that the move will also help the city government lessen its expenses becdause there will be no more need of hiring another set of workers to plant seedlings along the roads.

Baguio has won the title as the country's cleanest and greenest highly-urbanized city in 1995, 1996 and 1997. For this feat, the city has been elevated to the hall of fame.-gaby keith
